Flowers and Crafting,,, Crafting to make Flowers even better....

I made these primitive flowers today. JoAnn Fabrics had Felt and Burlap on sale this week so I thought no better time to give them a try.

I used some old canning jar seals and lids, you know I love to recycle when I can.

Cutting out the circles took some time

I made some basic primitive ones with plain burlap and black centers and then I made some for Christmas and the 4th of July.

I used wide mouth and small covers

It took the better part of the day to make them but I enjoyed the time spent.

New Life to a Tree,,,,,,

I hated the thought of cutting down this pine tree, it's the one in the distance off the corner of the Garage. After all it was there when we moved in 24 years ago.  But, Unfortunate it was leaning in the wrong direction to let it continue growing.

So I agreed only on one condition, that  he, my husband would make a Fairy House out of the stump.  After he rolled his eyes, and tilted his head, he agreed he would.

So, there it was, a stump 4 ft high with a peek on top for the roof. Now the reconstruction began.

First was the making of the door,, It had to be just the right height and width for a Fairy, but then again they come in all shape and sizes so who knew. So we guessed.

I looked through my upholstery hardware and found the perfect pink button and a couple pieces that would work for hinges.

Then my husband worked on the roof. He used the wood from an old pallet we had laying around, actually we have lots of pallets. Oh, that's another project altogether for another day.

He used the same pallet wood for the windows. While he made the windows I set out to find the chimney. I found a branch laying on the ground and cut a piece off of it for the chimney.  And then I found and piled the rocks for stairs leading up to the front door.

I walked up on top of our hill and found some moss and laid it around the ground and tucked it under the roof to fill in the gaps.  I painted some small rocks and planted chocolate mint and a couple fountain grasses for height. Some annuals to brighten up the spot a few solar lights to light it up at night.

Over the summer months the ground cover has grown in nicely and the fountain grass is getting taller.

I came home to a very nice surprise one day. Someone  had dropped off some gifts for the fairies.

Some tiny clay pots and baskets and a couple twig wreaths and a tiny hat. I filled the baskets with tiny crystals and stones and left them by the door.

I think our efforts have turned out really well and I've been told the Fairies agree.

Believe,,,,,,,,,

Have a Blessed Day

Shutter Angel

My Husband helped me create a Shutter Angel this summer. I place her up against the house to take some pictures but soon found her permanent home in my garden.

She was made from an old Shutter. Her arms are the rockers from an old broken rocking chair. Her Halo is some old rusty barbed wire we kept after we took down the horse fence.
Her wings are some shelves that my husband had made for me out of pine lumber and stained. I had in our living room for a while and grew tired of dusting everything that was on them.
We cut her head out of a piece of scrap plywood and screwed it to the shutter. And her bouquet is some broom corn and cattails.

Since these pictures were taken I've made her a Necklace out of an old metal dog chain and a piece of driveway reflector. I'll try to remember to take a new picture of her and post it.

Here she is with her necklace on. It is a beautiful day in Upstate NY let me tell you. Hard to believe it's November 4th, 15.

Hoping you remembered to vote today, because your vote counts.

I got a little crafty today.

My husband cut the pallet to the size I wanted and then I started painting it. I used Acrylic Paints and put a clear coat of over it.

I made a stencil for the stars.

We're all ready for the 4th of July

Have a Great Week Everyone.

Famous Chafing Dish

I recently Sold a Vintage Chafing dish and was very happy to know that it was going to be front and center in the play Clybourne Park. Here is a copy of the email sent to me from the buyer.

"Your piece will be famous in Tallahassee. I am the prop master for a local community theater       production  of a play called Clybourne Park, which is the sequel to Raisin in the Sun. The chafing dish will be front and center as the play takes place in 1959 in the first act. "

This is the Chafing dish Purchased from my shop (Nimbles Nook)

Note from Prop Manager Madison,  "We were looking for a similar chafing dish to a picture from a review of the play on England. See link below"

www.theguardian.com/culture/2011/feb/09/clybourne-park-review

This is a picture of the chafing dish they were searching for.

Dress rehearsal without the stage built

"If you ever have occasion to see the play Clybourne Park you'll see just how prominently the chafing dish is....on the set and in the dialogue! In fact, I only had a list of props to acquire. Now that I have seen the placement on stage and watched the first act, it is a blessing to have your chafing dish."
Madison :)

The set is coming together.

I wish I lived closer to go and see this show and my Chafing Dish of course. If you are in the area there is still plenty of time to go the production. http://theatretallahassee.org/staff/clybourne-park/
If you do make it to the show come on back here and let us know all about it.

Many Thanks to Madison for purchasing the Chafing Dish from my shop and for sending me the pictures for this post.

As a vintage seller I often wonder what the items will be used for and it's nice to know this story.

So It's a New Year...

I saw this post on facebook about filling a jar with little notes of all the good things that happen throughout the year and then reading the notes on Dec. 31st.
I liked the idea and I decided to add a Jar for the Bad things as well. Hoping of course that the jar for the Bad things will remain empty but knowing that everyone on their walk in life will experience bad times.

Praying that the Good will Outweigh the Bad

So when I read from each jar on December 31, 2014 we will see.

Blessings to you all and May your Jar overflow with Great things this year.
